Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla is an evocative account of a baby gorilla who is taken by poachers from the Congo to America to spend his life in captivity. This module tugs on heartstrings while building student empathy and capacity to express opinions. Students will practice close observation of their very own classroom gorilla family, stretch minds and muscles through Yoga‐rilla, find their voices through the writing and presentation of monologues, and curate a thought‐provoking art exhibition featuring finger painted masterpieces.
