CTL's Thinking & Learning Framework is designed to promote active thinking, learning, and engagement with content and between students through three domains (Build Community, Contribute Knowledge, and Think Critically) and four practices within each domain.
The practices within each domain:
- Help students learning how to respect the views of their peers while strengthening their own communication and thinking skills.
- Encourage students to use the information they are gathering through their learning (e.g. reading, notes, quick writes etc.)
- Provide structure for students to improve their discussion and thinking skills.
- Enable students to construct arguments based on evidence.
The Thinking and Learning Framework kit is designed to help bring the framework to life in a classroom setting providing:
- Set of Classroom posters to assist the constant use of the practices. Option 1: (3) 24" x 18" Domain posters; Option 2: (12) 11" x 17" Practices posters.
- (36) Full Color 8.5" x 11" Student Frameworks - this provides each student their own framework for reflection and notes.
- (36) Full Color 4.25" x 14" Quick Reference Sheets - this provides starters and actionable steps that can be used to assist students in operationalizing the framework during discussions, small group interactions, and quick writes.
- (1) Teacher Implementation Guide to assist the teacher in introducing the framework and planning for continued integration into classroom structures.
